The Failure of Modern Weight Loss Programs

The diet and weight loss industry is one of the most profitable industries on the planet. Each year people spend their hard-earned pounds, dollars and Euros on plans, programs, and pills that promise immediate results. But do these products actually work or are they nothing more than snake oil for modern consumers?

All evidence points to the latter. In fact, according to a recent survey 95 percent of folks who lost weight on a fad diet will gain it back within a year. So, why do people still spend their money on weight loss programs that don’t work?

Well, it's hard to say for certain. But we suspect that desperate dieters believe that they might just be the exception to the rule. And while we know we cannot solve the world's weight problems in this brief article, we do have a few words of wisdom for hopeless and hapless dieters who need to shed those excess pounds.

Firstly, you should stay away from diet fads. These ridiculous programs are not only unhealthy, but they simply do not work. And the reason that they do not work is that they ask you to change your entire diet overnight. In the end, their expectations are too high and the programs themselves are procrustean. That is why their failure rates are above 95 percent.

Though there is no easy solution to this problem, the best advice we can give is to eliminate a few hundred unnecessary calories from your diet every day. This could be achieved by simply switching from sugary to diet drinks or by cutting out the potato crisps and chips. And while you won't slough off the pounds in record time, you will lose weight gradually while maintaining your natural diet.
